Dr. Oz Bans Sugar and Endorses Cryogenic Chamber Therapy on the Doctor Oz Show Today

Dr. Oz Bans Sugar and Endorses Cryogenic Chamber Therapy on the Doctor Oz Show Today. On the Dr Oz Show today, Doctor Oz banned sugar from our homes! He also put the smackdown on some extreme alternative therapies like colonics, but he says cryogenic chamber therapy is good for you!

But first, number one on his most wanted list, Doctor Oz revealed the truth about just how bad sugar is for us. Sugar plays a major role in diabetes, of course, but it also plays a role in high blood pressure and liver damage.

Risk of High Blood Pressure

Dr. Alan Greene, author of “Feeding Baby Green” was on the show and he said there’s a growing body of research that shows sugar causes people to have high blood pressure. In people, taking away just one can of pop a day lowered their blood pressure. I think I already knew this, as my husband is a MAJOR sugar addict, but I never really thought about it much. Guess who has high blood pressure?

Dr. Miriam Vos, a sugar researcher from Emery University, says that much like salt, sugar does affect the blood pressure in her studies as well.

The American Heart Association is now recommended we take in no more than 6 teaspoons of sugar a day. On average, Americans eat 22 teaspoons of added sugar. A can of pop has about 9 teaspoons of sugar.

Risk of High Cholesterol

Dr. Vos says that people who consume more sugar have higher levels of the bad cholesterol, so they have an increased risk of heart disease. Sugar gets quickly and easily converted to fat by the body, and triglycerides are a blood fat, which clog up the arteries.

Risk of Liver Disease

Dr. Vos also says that sugar exacerbates fatty liver disease. Dr. Oz showed us a liver that was normal, and then a liver which had cirrhosis, which can actually be caused by sugar, not alcohol.

Risk of Insulin Resistance

Dr. Greene explained that when you eat sugar, your insulin levels spike. If that happens too often, then your cells get resistant and they stop spiking every time you eat sugar. Insulin resistance leads to weight gain, the fatty liver disease, the high cholesterol, high blood pressure and finally diabetes.
Alternative Therapies: Help or Hype

Cryogenic Chamber Therapy

A cryo sauna has liquid nitrogen in it to help cool your body down and relieve pain and inflammation. Dr. Oz says this helps and is not just hype. These are used in Europe frequently, and now available in American spas. Costs about $75 to $100 per treatment but can be very effective for chronic pain.

Colon Hydrotherapy or Colonic

This appears to be a machine-assisted enema, and Dr. Oz says it is just hype. Dr. Oz says your digestive system will naturally eliminate the waste without any help if you are eating the right foods. Colonics takes out the good bacteria as well as the bad, so it’s not a good thing at all. It can also cause dehydration, vomiting, nausea and cramps, and potentially infection.
